Learn in London this January!

Whether you're a college student or a lifelong learner, the International Education Program offers memorable opportunities to study abroad this January.

Visit renowned landmarks as you explore historic and current topics of interest. Lectures and visits, as well as cultural, educational and recreational tours, round out each London program. All courses offer ample free time to experience London on your own or with friends. And each carries three college credits. It's the learning opportunity of a lifetime!

Courses in art, business, criminal justice, history, health care, sociology, the media, and world religions depart for London on Thursday, January 1, and return Wednesday, January 14. The cost is just $2,849, including round trip transportation via deluxe motorcoach from Auburn or Rochester, New York, to Newark Airport and your international flight.

The theatre program begins with an orientation at the hotel in London on Tuesday, January 6, and will end with hotel checkout on Monday, January 19. The cost is $2,935, exclusive of airfare.

Art and Design in London

Touring London's museums and galleries, students view old masters as well as contemporary works of art and photography. Lectures and discussions focus on fine and design arts. Visits include the National Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and many others. Students can create their own images for a photographic journal of their tour. Cost: $2,849. Tom Casella of the Cayuga art faculty leads the group.

International Business

Students explore the world of international business as they tour London's renowned business and financial landmarks. Points of interest on this in-depth guided excursion include Lloyds of London, the Bank of England, London Stock Exchange, American Embassy, Guild Hall, Baltic Exchange, Docklands, Port of London Authority, City of London Museum, and Harrods. Cost: $2,849. Cayuga business professor Tom Paczkowski instructs.

Criminal Justice and Public Safety

Exploring the influence of British criminal justice and public safety on law enforcement in America, visits and lectures include London's metropolitan police and its "Murder Squad," the Royal Halls of Justice, Smithfield Execution Grounds, and a "Jack the Ripper" walking tour. Highlights include an excursion on a Thames River Patrol boat, a court trial with expert commentary, and a dinner discussion with a former British ambassador. Cost: $2,849. John Lamphere of the Cayuga criminal justice faculty instructs.

Health Care in Great Britain

Tours, lectures, and discussions enable participants to meet, compare experiences, and exchange ideas with their counterparts in the British National Health Service. Points of interest include the Royal Hospital Chelsea, the Royal College of Nursing, Old St. Thomas Operating Theatre, Wellcome Medical Museum, the Nurses' Chapel at Westminster, and others. Cost: $2,849. Jane Kiernan, Ph.D., of the Cayuga nursing faculty, leads the group.

Britain in History

This study of England from prehistoric to current times includes Stonehenge, prehistoric London, Roman ruins in London and Bath, medieval cathedrals, the London Tower, Museum of London, Florence Nightingale Museum, the British Museum, Imperial War Museum, National Army Museum, Churchill Museum, Cabinet War Rooms, Churchill's Britain at War Experience, and the HMS Belfast. Cost: $2,849. Ron Grube, Ph.D., professor of history at Cayuga, instructs.

Contemporary Social Issues

Landmark attractions of London, Stonehenge, Bath and Greenwich are our classroom as we trace the history, culture, and traditions of Great Britain. Our visits and lectures will explore the causes and effects of social classes through the ages, from the extravagance of the royals to the struggles of workers, serfs and slaves. We also look at how Britain—once the seat of the global British Empire — has influenced the world by imposing its ways and laws on non-British subjects. Cost: $2,849. Media: The British Experience

In this comprehensive exploration of 21st-century media, professionals from the British broadcasting industry provide an in-depth view of radio, television, cable, and satellite in Great Britain. Tours, lectures, and discussions feature BBC television and radio facilities, the National Science Museum, a backstage tour at the National Theatre, Time Out magazine, and many other highlights. Cost: $2,849. Steve Keeler and Tom Proietti, professors of telecommunications at Cayuga and Monroe, instructs.

Comparative World Religions

London's diverse communities embrace many belief systems, creating a real-world context to explore Eastern and Western religious thought. Offered for Philosophy credit, this course includes presentations by believers of several faiths and visits to noted cathedrals, temples, mosques, museums, and historic sites. Individual study may be possible to suit particular interests. Cost: $2,849. Jeffrey Delbel, Ph.D., professor of philosophy at Cayuga, instructs.

London Theatre Program

This tour offers an exceptional opportunity for theatre lovers to see as many as a dozen plays and to attend discussions with actors, directors, designers, and playwrights. The emphasis of the course is on productions of the Royal National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company, but West End and Fringe shows are also featured. Early registration is a must; the course fills quickly. Note: travel schedule differs and special fees apply. Cost of $2,935 does not include airfare. Instructor Mark Cole chairs the theatre department at the State University of New York at Oswego.

Estimated cost * for each of the above covers:

  • Round trip transportation (except for Theatre program) includes motorcoach from Auburn or Rochester to international departure point.**
  • Instruction, lectures, tours, excursions, sightseeing
  • Three college credits (with instructor's approval, students may audit a course for no credit)
  • Comfortable double accommodations with private bath in a centrally located hotel (single rooms available at an additional cost)
  • Full English breakfast daily
  • Land transportation by deluxe motorcoach for all trips and excursions

* Subject to change if tuition, hotel, or airfare rates increase, or if the exchange rate of the dollar warrants.
** Other flight arrangements are available; costs vary. Cost and connections can only be assured for students who register by October 1, 2008.

 

PAYMENT DUE DATES

Application/reservation (first payment) – $300

Second payment – additional $300 by 11/1/08

Balance due – 12/1/08

NOTE: Late registrants are accepted if space is available. Out-of-state registrants must pay an additional tuition charge.

 

REFUND POLICY

All payments are refundable up to 65 days before departure except for a $200 charge to cover flight cancellation and administrative costs. During the final 65 days, the registrant is responsible for any portion of the package not resold.
