Student Research Award

Purpose
To encourage and support student achievement in information literacy as demonstrated by the ability to identify, understand, evaluate, and use information related to Cayuga Community College courses.

Award
The winner will receive a $200 award and a certificate of achievement. The winner’s name will be inscribed on a plaque displayed permanently in the Library.

Frequency
The award will be presented annually at the end of the spring semester, at a brief reception hosted by the library.

Eligibility
Each entry must be a student research project completed for a Cayuga Community College class of the summer, fall, or spring session preceding the award date. Submission must be done by the faculty member who assigned the project, not by the student. If a student would like to have a research project entered, he or she should contact the faculty member who assigned it. Any member of the Cayuga faculty may submit a student research project that he or she assigned, after obtaining the student’s permission to do so.

How to Enter
A print copy of the project must be submitted to the library director. Each entry must have a cover sheet indicating the student’s name, faculty member’s name, course and section, and a copy of the assignment for which the project was completed. The student’s name should not appear anywhere else in the material. After submission, the cover sheet will be removed and the project will be given a number. All entries will be distributed to the selection committee anonymously.

Entries should be submitted according to the following schedule for the annual award:

  • Summer session and fall semester papers – submit by December 20
  • Spring semester papers – submit by April 20

Selection Process
Each project will be measured against a rubric developed by the selection committee. The rubric focuses on information literacy competencies exhibited in the project.

Selection Committee
The selection committee will consist of the Auburn and Fulton librarians and two members of the Academic Support Center professional staff.
