About Financial Aid

IMPORTANT NOTICE: TAP ALERT

Several actions by the State Legislature and the Governor have caused major disruptions in the awarding and processing of Tuition Assistance Program Grants (TAP) for fall semester:

  1. Late passage of the New York State budget
  2. The late decision of the State Legislature and the Governor to lower TAP by $75 per student
  3. The late decision of the State Legislature and the Governor to change standards of progress for receiving TAP
  4. The late decision of the State Legislature and the Governor to make the new TAP standards retroactive
  5. The subsequent required re-programming of computer systems at New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) and on campus

As a result of these actions ALL TAP awards should be considered ESTIMATES until TAP certification occurs in early October.

The new state standards of progress can be viewed here.

The Financial Aid Office is doing everything possible to accurately apply TAP to student bills, however until we receive all of the necessary documents from the state, these awards cannot be considered official.

Your patience is appreciated as we all work through this unfortunate situation.

Cayuga is committed to accessible, affordable higher education. Financial aid is available, and most Cayuga students receive it, in the form of grants, student loans, work-study jobs, and scholarships.

Apply for financial aid promptly, after you apply for admission to Cayuga. First consideration goes to students who apply early.

Some or all of the costs of your tuition, fees and books may be covered by financial aid. Beyond these costs, you may also receive “excess financial aid” to help cover personal expenses while you are a Cayuga student, such as housing, meals, and transportation. Decisions on financial aid awards are based on need, eligibility, and available funds.

The types of financial aid awarded to Cayuga students include Federal Direct Loans, Federal Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, Academic Competitiveness Grants, and Cayuga grants and scholarships.

Financial aid comes with responsibilities for attendance and maintaining satisfactory grades. View information on Student Responsibilities and Maintaining Eligibility for financial aid.

Changes in state, federal, or institutional policy may modify the programs and regulations outlined here. Cayuga Community College is committed to equal opportunity in employment, admission, and treatment for all persons, without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, disability, gender, or any other basis prohibited by federal or state law. The College also has an affirmative action policy.
