Men's Basketball 2008-09 Game Recaps

2008-12-09 - vs. SUNY Delhi
L 51-74

Poor shooting from the field and free-throw line cost the Spartans an opportunity for the road win. Justin Sterling and Jovoun Webb scored 14 points each in defeat. Terry Harrison chipped in with 10 points. The Spartans look to get back in the win column tomorrow night against Columbia-Greene at home... and will finish the first semester on the road Saturday at Schenectady CCC. The Spartans overall record stands at 6-5.

2008-11-16 - vs. Fulton-Montgomery CC
W 86-72

The Spartans knocked off Niagara in the opening round 74-70 and then beat Fulton-Montgomery CC 86-72 to win the 2008 Spartan Classic. The wins move the Spartans record to 4-2 on the young season. Jovoun Webb was named tournament MVP... scoring 23 and 21 points, respectively. Freshman guard Justin Sterling was also named to the All-Tournament team for the Spartans. Terry Harrison and Nick Neville also played well down low for Cayuga. The Spartans host Mohawk Valley on Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m.

2008-11-15 - vs. Niagara CC
W 74-70

The Spartans knocked off Niagara in the opening round 74-70 and then beat Fulton-Montgomery CC 86-72 to win the 2008 Spartan Classic. The wins move the Spartans record to 4-2 on the young season. 2008-11-11 - vs. Alfred State
L 70-81

The men's basketball team lost at Alfred State 81-70. The Spartans couldn't overcome a 13-point halftime deficit to the Pioneers. Justin Sterling led the Spartans with 22 points and nine assists while Jovoun Webb finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Martinez, Rahammod Trotter, and Terry Harrison all chipped in seven points. The Spartans return to action this weekend when they host Niagara CCC on Saturday, November 15th at 2:00 p.m.... as part of the Spartan Classic Invitational. The first game matches Tompkins-Cortland CC and Fulton-Montgomery CC at noon. The Consolation and Championship games will be played on Sunday, November 16th at noon and 2:00 p.m., respectively.

2008-11-08 - vs. Fulton-Montgomery CC
W 78-73

The men's basketball team scored the final seven points in the last sixteen seconds in exciting fashion to stun Fulton-Montgomery CC on the road 78-73. Trailing 73-71 with sixteen seconds left and with FMCC on the foul line... the Spartans converted FMCC's missed free throws into a basket and a foul and took the lead 74-73... then stole the ball on the Raider's ensuing possession. The Spartans were able to convert on their final free throws and then made another steal and finished the flurry with a dunk in the final few ticks of the clock to win the thriller 78-73. Vance Kelley led the Spartans with 24 points... including six three-pointers. The Spartans record now stands at 2-1... and will travel to Alfred State Tuesday, November 11th with the women's team in a doubleheader to face the Pioneers.

2008-11-02 - vs. Herkimer CC
L 80-91

On Sunday, the Spartans gave Region III powerhouse Herkimer, currently ranked #6 in the NJCAA national poll, all they could handle... leading the game 78-77 with four minutes to play... before falling 91-80. The Spartans hurt their chances for the upset by going 11 for 26 from the foul line during the contest. Freshman Vance Kelley hit 6 three-pointers and scored 24 points... while sophomore Jovoun Webb added 21 points. The Spartans travel to Fulton-Montgomery next to play on Saturday.

2008-11-01 - vs. Adirondack CC
W 104-93 OT

The Spartans men's basketball team survived an opening overtime thriller in beating Adirondack CC 104-93 at Spartan Hall on Saturday. Freshman Terry Harrison netted 37 points in his first collegiate game for the Spartans. The Spartans scored 24 points during overtime to distance themselves from the Timberwolves and secure their first win of the young season.
