Cayuga Success Stories
“Cayuga Community College is a great two year college for those who are financially looking to start in the accounting field. Cayuga’s Accounting Program along with its great professors, Paul Shinal and Dawn Matijas, helped me prepare to transfer into a bachelor’s program. Not only did these two professors help my passion for accounting expand into new areas in business, but they also got me involved in college activities relating to accounting.”
“Cayuga Community College’s Accounting Program is an excellent place to start for those students looking to enter the accounting world. Cayuga is not only smart, affordable, and local, but they offer the experience other two year colleges cannot. Cayuga Community College offers great professors with years of experience, small classrooms, clubs, scholarships, internships, and so much more.”
“When I look back at my two years here at CCC in their Accounting Program, I realize that the accounting program wasn’t just a place where I went and sat for hours in a classroom learning about financial and managerial accounting, but a second home. The staff and students really know how to work as one here at Cayuga Community College.” — Mark J. Brooks '10
“The accounting program at Cayuga Community College is a great program to get your degree in. When I lost my job in 2009 due to a business closing, I made the decision to change my degree to accounting and it was the best decision that I could have made. It is a tough program but the accounting field is a great field to choose for your career and there are numerous jobs available.”
“The accounting program helps prepare you for the workforce by teaching the classes that touch on all accounting basics. With that knowledge the individual can start out in a basic accounting position and work their way up the ladder. That is what I am doing and I never have a boring day at my job. It is something different every day and I get to apply my knowledge in many different situations at work. I know I can only go up from here and one day I might return to get my bachelors degree.” — Kimberly Hart '10
“There is no other school I could have attended that could have provided the wonderfully positive experience that I enjoyed. I came to Cayuga as a non-traditional student. I was nervous and unsure in taking such a big step at my age, as I had not attended school in over 30 years. My decision to enter Cayuga’s Accounting Program put me in the care of a group of instructors whose professionalism, consideration and encouragement gave me all the self-confidence I needed to succeed. I felt that my instructors truly cared about my progress. As an adult student, I could appreciate the amount of time and attention that went into the preparation of lectures and class work. I recognized that my professors were working harder than I was. This program is designed for the success of its students. The instructors are knowledgeable, patient, compassionate and kind. I would suggest Cayuga’s accounting program to anyone who is considering a career in Accounting.” — Linda Campbell Hetherington '09
“As a non-traditional student, I chose Cayuga Community College to pursue my accounting degree and it turned out to be the best decision I ever made. From the first accounting class to the last, the professors were there every step of the way for me. They love teaching and made me successful in the program. After graduation I was offered a full-time accounting position with a local CPA. I know this was possible through my education at Cayuga.” — Joelle McLaughlin '08
“Professors Shinal and Matijas helped me fall in love with accounting. Cayuga also allowed students to participate in various venues to showcase the many different careers an accounting degree could offer.
