Welcome to Cayuga Community College

Cayuga Community College is one of 64 institutions that make up the State University of New York (SUNY), the nation’s largest comprehensive system of public higher education. For the central New York region and for a growing number of distance-learning students around the world, Cayuga provides an affordable gateway to higher education, with courses and degree programs offered at two campuses and online.

The Auburn campus is in Cayuga County, in the heart of New York State’s Finger Lakes region. The College’s campus in Fulton offers residents of Oswego County and surrounding areas a wide array of courses, including several complete degree programs, within easy commuting distance.

The College is sponsored by Cayuga County and governed by a 10-member board of trustees. Founded under the sponsorship of the Auburn City School District in 1953 as Auburn Community College, the College officially changed its name to Cayuga County Community College in 1975 when Cayuga County assumed sponsorship. Fulton operations grew rapidly from two downtown classrooms in 1994 to the current facility on West Broadway (Route 3). Opened in 2001, the Fulton campus now serves over 1,000 students each academic year.

Committed to being the community college for both Cayuga and Oswego Counties, the College offers transfer and career-oriented curricula on a degree and certificate basis. Popular programs include liberal arts, education, broadcasting, studio art and design, business, nursing, and criminal justice. The geographic information systems program—providing hands-on training in the high-tech field of space-based mapping and imaging—enjoys a special relationship with the NASA-sponsored Institute for the Application of Geospatial Technology, located on the Auburn campus.

Flexibility is a hallmark of program delivery at Cayuga. More than 40% of those enrolled are over the age of 22, many with job and family responsibilities. Students can take courses in Auburn, Fulton, or both, and can choose from weekday, evening, and Sunday classes. Many courses—even some complete degree programs—are also available online.

A variety of clubs, organizations, and activities offer students a diverse college experience, from NJCAA Division III athletics to student government, from the college chorus to the student radio station, from orientation staffing to the student newspaper. While Cayuga and Oswego Counties are largely rural, a variety of cultural, recreational, and shopping opportunities are concentrated in the cities of Auburn, Fulton, and Oswego, as well as in such nearby towns as Aurora, Waterloo, and Skaneateles. Within an easy drive of either campus are the cities of Syracuse and Rochester.

For the general community and area employers, Cayuga offers a spectrum of credit-free courses for leisure learning and specialized workforce training. Local residents are encouraged to make use of the College’s library, arts, and cultural resources—and on the Auburn campus, a year-round outdoor recreational trail. The Auburn campus also houses regional offices of the state Department of Labor and related employment agencies.
